Hey everyone! Today I am going to be talking about our guest lecturer we had this week, Rebecca Bathurst-Hunt. Firstly, I just really appreciated her coming in and speaking with us. I feel like we have heard so much about her considering she is a teacher “celebrity”. For her to take the time and give us a opportunity to see her learning space and answer our many questions is greatly appreciated. I really enjoyed her perspective on inquiry based learning for young students. Before this lecture I had a hard time picturing how inquiry based learning would work for the youngest grades, but post lecture it makes so much sense to me. Young students are already inquiry so much about literally everything around them. Somewhere along our educational journey, students lose that fire to ask all of the questions about everything, which I think is so important for learning. I also really enjoyed her classroom tour. The fact that everything in the room has a purpose and is there by design was super cool to see. I also really hope that I have a coat room, which I know is just completely luck of the draw, but that transitional space in which organized chaos can reign would be so beneficial I think. The system of the classroom progressing with the students through the year is another strategy that I am planning on implementing into my own classroom in the future. Thanks everyone!
